Breakups can be extremely tough, which is why fans thought Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson would stay tight-lipped and try to take some time to heal after calling off their engagement in mid-October. Alas, while Ari’s trying to move on, Pete continues to talk about the split publicly — even using it as material for some of his jokes on Saturday Night Live.
While the comedian’s humor may be a defense mechanism, it’s clear that it’s really getting under the “God is a Woman” singer’s skin. Just yesterday, for example, SNL released a promo video for this week’s episode, and to say it struck a chord with AG would be a MAJOR understatement.
Although the 24-year-old didn’t call out his former fiancée directly, he did make a clear reference to their short-lived engagement that didn’t go over too well by proposing to musical guest Maggie Rogers. After she declined his offer, he shrugged and said, “0 for 3.”
After the pop star caught wind of the promo, she took to Twitter to share her thoughts. In a series of since-deleted tweets, the “No Tears Left to Cry” crooner wrote, “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy you sure love clinging to it huh.” She also added, “Thank you, next.” The SHADE!
That’s not all, though! In case it wasn’t already obvious that she was referring to Pete in those tweets, Ariana engaged with several fan tweets, making it more than obvious that her words were intended for her ex. For example, one of the tweets she retweeted (and later un-retweeted) said, “SNL is about to milk their breakup just like they did with the engagement.” Welp, that’s a mood.
Despite not being happy about Pete’s SNL joke, it seems like the 25-year-old is actually handling the split rather well. At a recent Halloween party, brother Frankie Grande confirmed that she’s doing well and keeping herself busy.
“She’s a strong powerful woman. She’s working really hard and I’m so unbelievably proud of her as I always am as her big brother,” he said.
Keep your head up, Ari!
