Another American has created a transatlantic taste war – this time over the classic British butty.

Twitter user Jack, from Massachusetts, had a pop at one of our favourite comfort foods and was immediately put in his place.

He posted a picture of chips inside two big slices of bread and said he had been left “irrationally angry” after discovering the much-loved dish.

He caused a serious stir in the UK after his views went viral with 115,000 likes and 20,000 re-tweets.

The bloke shared a quick snap of the sarnie and wrote: “Just learned about chip butties, which is an English food that is literally just French fries in between two slices of bread."

It comes months after a North Carolina woman caused outrage across the ocean after posting a recipe for 'British tea'.

She shared a TikTok of herself microwaving cold water, pouring in a third of a cup of milk, dropping in a tea bag and then adding in the sugar.

There were calls for her to be banned from England for life, but now we have a new enemy in sight.

Jack's post caused a storm and one told him: “Americans who cannot discern G&B from Hershey’s should never comment on European food."

Another said sharply: “A chip butty made with American ingredients the way you’re imagining would indeed be awful.

"An English chip butty with proper chippy chips, thick salted butter, soft white bread and lots of salt is amazing.”

A third wrote: “I don’t know why you posted this picture of cardboard."

Jack addressed the unrest

He later tweeted: "The Brits have found this post and they are P****D!"

Then came a chilling warning.

He went on: "If y’all keep this up as soon as I get vaccine I’m gunna go to England and start throw chip buttys at ur windows.

"You gunna try to convince me that eels in jelly is good next?"
