Even though it will be a few months yet until Meghan (née Markle), Duchess of Sussex, gives birth to her first child with Prince Harry, everyone is already abuzz with speculation about who the royal couple will name as the baby’s godparents. Allegedly at the head of the pack of nominees are George and Amal Clooney, according to reports such a the one at the Daily Mail where multiple unnamed sources claim the George is “a shoo-in,” and honestly, these two are a choice that actually makes sense.

In May, the Clooneys traveled to Windsor Castle for Meghan and Prince Harry’s royal nuptials, not because celebrity power at the royal wedding is a must but because Meghan and Amal have been close for some time. That’s not surprising, given that Amal is a British human rights lawyer and Meghan has proven time and time again that she’s deeply dedicated to human rights causes.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported that after the wedding, the Clooneys flew their royal friends via private jet to their luxurious Lake Como residence. During the visit, Meghan and Prince Harry met the Clooneys’ one-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander. The outlet reports that a source close to both couples said, “Amal and Meghan have been close for years, and Harry and George have become buddies because of that. They’re much closer than the headlines let on.”

Thus, that insider and several members of Clooney’s family said the actor thinks he and his wife are shoo-ins to become the newest royal baby’s godparents when the child is born next spring. Clooney’s cousin Ben Breslin told the Daily Mail, “I’m all for it. He’d make a wonderful godfather, he’d make a wonderful just about anything – he’s a good guy.”

Breslin had lovely things to say about Amal, too: “Amal is beautiful and wonderful and a great addition to our family. We’ve loved her ever since we met her. He sure picked a winner with her.”

Allegedly, Meghan and Prince Harry are expected to attend a dinner party at the Clooneys’ London home in December, alongside other stars including Barack and Michelle Obama. Have we mentioned recently that we’re jealous of all these people’s lives? We are. We’re also waiting with bated breath to see whether or not the Clooneys will get their wish and be named royal godparents.
