Thomas Markle has revealed his desperate bid to win back estranged daughter Meghan Markle after their family feud threatened to tear apart their bond for good.

Over Christmas, shamed dad Thomas – who skipped May’s royal wedding amid claims he faked a heart attack – spent time at a makeshift refugee camp in Rosarito, Mexico.

He was papped handing out toys and other Christmas presents to children living in poverty just 200 metres from the US-Mexico border.

Pictures show the Duchess of Sussex’s dad carrying a little girl and pulling a shopping trolley full of kids as his own daughter celebrated the festive season more than 5,000 miles away in Sandringham, Norfolk.

Markle Snr also walked around a camp filled with tents, where deported families are living under the shadow of the border.

The 74-year-old was joined by friends as they drove an SUV from Tijuana down to Rosarito, before stopping off in two other camps to hand out sweets and gifts to the children there.

While the seemingly spontaneous act of generosity will go down a treat with those who feel Meghan has treated her dad unfairly, others will wonder why a paparazzo just so happened to be in the area when Thomas started meeting refugees.

Thomas previously admitted to staging fake photoshoots for money ahead of the royal wedding, after he was caught speaking to photographers outside an internet cafe.

His embarrassing confession caused a ruckus for the royal family and threatened to overshadow Meghan and Harry’s nuptials.

It was only after the news broke that Thomas was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack, then pulled out of his wedding role of walking Meghan down the aisle to meet her groom.

Instead, it was left to Meghan’s steadfast mum Doria Ragland to represent the family in St George’s Chapel, where she won praise for her calm dignity and poise.

Since then, Meghan and Thomas’ feud has spiralled almost to the point of no return.

It’s believed the Palace has advised Mr Markle to stop giving interviews about the state of their relationship, but he continues to air his grievances wherever possible.

Just before Christmas he appeared on Good Morning Britain to complain that Meghan won’t return his calls or messages – and admitted he hasn’t been in contact with her since before the wedding.

He told show host Piers Morgan that Meghan had ‘ghosted’ him, adding that he wouldn’t give up trying to get in touch.

"I don’t plan to be silent for the rest of my life. I love my daughter very much and she has to know that, and I would really appreciate if she would call me, just reach out to me," he said.

"There has to be a place for me. I’m here, she knows it … I need her to reach back to me.

"I’m very disappointed by it and I’m not sure why it’s happening," he went on.

"I’ve been trying to reach out for several weeks, every day I text her I just haven’t received any contact back.

"Meghan and I were as close as a father and daughter could be right up until her wedding to Harry. Then it all fell apart."
