To paraphrase Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker, being a Jedi is not about going out there all lightsabers blazing to cut down battle droids/stormtroopers etc, it’s about bringing light into people’s lives.

Mark Hamill went and did just that, by surprising a healthcare worker with a video call and a special gift.

Appearing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor jumped on a video call between the host and this week’s Healthcare Hero, Chloe Ducose from San Diego.

Putting on his best booming Jedi ghost voice, Hamill said: “Chloe, the Force is strong with you. I applaud you for having seen the Star Wars movies more than I have.

“I’ve been reading about all you’ve done… as a nurse, teaching at nights. I’m a pretend hero, you’re a real-life hero. Thank you.”

Kimmel revealed Chloe was going to get a $10,000 donation from PayPal, with vouchers for her co-workers, and Hamill went one step further by stating that he would sign and send her a lightsaber (with the caveat that she leaves it at home if she goes to any protests).

Star Wars sequel trilogy actor John Boyega recently made an incredibly powerful speech at a Black Lives Matter demonstration in London.

“I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f**k that,” he said. “Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process.”

John’s speech was widely praised. Lucasfilm put out a statement saying that they stand with him, while JJ Abrams said that he would always want to work with the actor.

John has also called on people to recognize the importance of pursuing “long term solutions and commitments” in the fight against racism.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
