EastEnders: Waterloo Road star Max Bowden takes over role of Ben Mitchell as he becomes SIXTH actor to portray the character
EastEnders favourite Ben Mitchell is returning to Albert Square with another new actor portraying the role.
Waterloo Road’s Max Bowden, 24, will take over the role which has been portrayed by a total of five actors in the past, most recently including Harry Reid, 26, who played the character from 2014 to 2018.
Max will begin filming his first scenes for the soap this week, following Ben’s departure from the series a year ago.

Max told The Sun: ‘I’m so excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders and taking on the role of Ben Mitchell.
‘I’ve always been a fan of the show so to be joining one of the most iconic families in soap is beyond exciting. I can’t wait to get started and see what’s in store for Ben.’

A source told the publication they expect there will be an adjustment period as viewers get used to a new face.
They said: ‘It’ll take viewers a bit of time to get used to another face playing him, but they’ve had plenty of practice over the years when it comes to his character.’
Past: Harry Reid, 26, became the fifth character to play Ben Mitchell and starred in the role from 2014 to 2018
The first incarnation of Ben Mitchell was portrayed by actor Matthew Silver as an infant from 1996 to 1998.
Morgan Whittler then played him as a toddler from 1999 to 2001.
After a five year absence from the series, Charlie Jones took over the role of Ben and portrayed him from 2006 to 2010, when he was replaced by Joshua Pascoe.

Joshua made his final appearance as the character on August 4 2012 with Harry Reid taking on the role when Ben returned to Albert Square in 2014.
Meanwhile, Max is known to Waterloo Road fans for playing Justin Fitzgerald from 2014 to 2015.
Harry Reid shared a video thanking his fans for their support shortly before his final episode as Ben aired last year.

He said: ‘Hello everyone, just a quick message. I wanted to say a few words because my last episode of EastEnders is going on air in 10 minutes.
‘I just wanted to say thank you really, thank you to everyone who’s been supporting me during my time on EastEnders. To the fan groups and all the collages they’ve done and the videos.
‘You know everyone on here on Instagram and on Instagram and Twitter – on all social media that’s really documented my time on there and I really appreciate it.’
EastEnders continues on Monday on BBC One at 8pm.
