Actress Florence Pugh thinks it’s ‘bizarre’ that members of the public get to display ‘hate and opinions’ on her love life.

The Little Women star, 24, is currently dating 45-year-old Scrubs actor Zach Braff and has been criticised for the 20-year age gap between them.

Yet in an exclusive interview with Elle UK, Florence has shared her view that it’s ‘a strange side of fame that you’re allowed to be torn apart by thousands of people even though you didn’t put that piece of you out there’.

Florence said she understands that being famous might lead to people invading your privacy but it seems odd that a total stranger is allowed to share ‘hate and opinions’ on someone’s personal life they are trying to keep to themselves.

‘I have the right to hang out and be with and go out with anyone I want to,’ she added.

But it seems like Florence isn’t letting the negative comments get to her.

After celebrating an Oscar nomination for Little Women, she now looks ahead to her role in the Marvel franchise as Yelena Belova in Black Widow.

At first, Florence said playing a character who’s only ever been read about before was a pretty scary prospect.

When the Black Widow cast was revealed at San Diego’s Comic-Con, Florence admitted: ‘I didn’t know whether people were going to hate me.’

But when Scarlett Johansson squeezed her hand with a palm as equally clammy as her own, she realised that it’s normal to feel nervous and excited.

Florence added that it’s helped her to make sure she’s on the same page as everyone else working on the film.

She’s been keen to avoid people checking up on her all the time and ensuring she’s in the right shape, explaining that it’s not her ‘at all’ to act like that.

Instead she prefers to live in the here and the now, and is navigating lockdown through cooking.

Cooking has been my saviour!’ she explained.

‘When the world lockdown started and it obviously got serious very quickly, I found myself desperate to chop. Feed. Eat. Repeat!’

The star added that she’s trying to be kinder to herself in lockdown and is trying to find joy as much as she can.

And what’s she daydreaming about?

Walking through Soho or East London with her girlfriends, sun out and an M&S canned cocktail in hand.

And this is why we love you Florence.
