Davina McCall admits she “fakes” being happy because she does not want people to see her looking sad.
The TV host, 51, rarely comes across as anything but positive on screen, despite her marriage recently ending.
But she confessed: “Sometimes I’m faking it. Sometimes I’m struggling.
“There’s been a few occasions where I’m struggling to see any positives in this at all.
“Happiness is marvellous. I love it when I’m happy, but I’m not always happy.
“It might look like I’m always happy because I quite often just show the bits when I’m happy. But I am often guilty of thinking, ‘No one really wants to see me when I’m unhappy’.”
The star continued: “The times when I’ve been honest – I posted on Christmas Day about loneliness and it wasn’t that I was massively lonely, but I did think it’s a tough day – and the feedback I got from that. It’s funny when you do put yourself out there a bit, you get good stuff back.”
Davina split from her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson, 50, in November 2017. They are parents to Holly, 17, Tilly, 15 and Chester, 12.
Speaking to host Fearne Cotton, 37, on her podcast Happy Place, Davina said she is delighted her career is still going strong, likening herself to the late TV host Cilla Black.
She said: “Every day is a lucky day that I’m still in TV because I’m probably one of the oldest female TV presenters.
“I’m a bit of a Cilla. I’m full of gratitude for that.”
Davina, who is often criticised for her strict exercise regime, added: “I feel amazing. I just want to look good for my age. Fitness is a big part of that, but there other factors for me to feel good.”
