Charlie Sheen earned his one-year chip.
On Tuesday, the 53-year-old actor announced on Twitter that he’s been sober for one year. He shared a picture of his chip and wrote, “so, THIS happened yesterday!”
He added, “a fabulous moment, in my renewed journey. #TotallyFocused.”
Sheen struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years. He told Dr. Oz in 2016 that after 11 years of sobriety, he fell off the wagon after learning he had been diagnosed with HIV in 2012.
He also said his “manic behavior” stemmed from his drug and alcohol addictions.
“My only experience with manic behavior is usually in the throes of deep partying,” he said at the time. “Deep substance abuse and drinking.”
He publicly disclosed his HIV-positive diagnosis on the “Today” show on Nov. 17, 2015, in an interview with Matt Lauer.
