The director of the now-infamous “WAP” music video has shared that the original inspiration for the artistic style behind it was derived from a G-rated source.
In a VEVO Footnotes clip, director Colin Tilley shared that he has long been “a big Tim Burton fan, I would say I’m always inspired by childhood books, Dr. Suess, etc,” which is linked to the distorted appearance of the mansion in which singers, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion find themselves in the video.
In the same video, Cardi B revealed that she did not like the original hook for the song, and that she “sent it to some female artists to see if they could do the hook.”
When it became apparent that there was going to be no substitute, she threw caution to the wind and just went for it; “I don’t know, I couldn’t come up with anything else, so whatever,” she added.
