Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will not be attending the National Television Awards on Tuesday night, a spokesperson for the pair has confirmed.
The move has has led some critics to predict the Geordie duo’s incredible 18 year run in the Best Presenter category will be coming to an end this year.
Ant’s nomination had raised eyebrows among some critics after he took a 10 month break from his TV commitments in 2018.
The presenter only starred in four episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway and six pre-recorded auditions for Britain’s Got Talent before announcing a hiatus to focus on his recovery.
The 43-year-old star crashed his black mini in March 2018 and checked straight into rehab after being breathalysed at the scene.
Ant and Dec’s no-show at next week’s ceremony will be the first time since 2001 the pals haven’t been in attendance at the awards.
A representative for the Geordie duo confirmed to the Mirror that the pair will be busy filming Britain’s Got Talent auditions which clash with the ceremony at London’s 02 arena.
The spokeperson added that nobody from BGT would be attending including Ant, Dec and judges Simon Cowell , David Walliams , Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden .
The awards will be presented by Dermott O Leary, who is also up for the best TV presenter gong along with the likes of Holly Willoughby and Graham Norton.
Ahead of the bash Dermot apologised for what he called a ‘foolish’ suggestion that Ant and Dec didn’t deserve to win the presenting gong .
Dermot previously joked: "If they win it, having not been on television, we may as well just chuck in the towel."
But in an interview with the Sun, Ant revealed Dermot texted him soon afterwards to apologise.
Ant explained: "He was kind of joking. I say kind of because it was one of those foolish things to say that’s going to be taken in a serious manner.
“He said, ‘Oh my God mate, I’m so sorry’. I challenged him to a fight in the school playground in my response. ‘3pm, schoolbags off’.
