Alex Jones’ spot on the BBC sofa will be filled by The One Show favourite Angellica Bell, 43, who has previously fronted segments and hosted the programme. In an interview with, she revealed she would be joining Matt Baker, 41, on presenting duties later this month. “Because it’s you, I’ll let you know,” she teased. “I’m covering the first three weeks of maternity leave for definite.

I start Alex’s cover at the end of April.

“I start her cover at the end of April.”

Asked whether she would be covering further shows for Alex later in the star’s maternity leave, Angellica explained: “I’ve got some other bits to do, more on the BBC and filming and stuff.

“So maybe some more later down the line but they’re cracking the whip with me on other stuff,” she laughed.

Angellica, who has recently teamed up with TalkTalk for their latest campaign, will be reunited with her former CBBC co-star Matt when she rejoins the line-up on The One Show at the end of the month, having worked together at the children’s channel in the past.

“It’s funny because it just feels like we’re back at the BBC me going over to do a trail at the Blue Peter studio or him coming over to do a presentation in the Broom Cupboard,” she said.

“We just have a natter and it’s fun. Because we know each other, there’s that instant chemistry and because we know each other socially as well, it’s really nice.

“It’s nice, as well, to see how so many presenters from children’s television have blossomed and grown,” Angellica continued.

Praising her The One Show co-host and sharing her excitement to present the programme, she added: “Matt is a consummate professional and really good t his job so it’s brilliant.

“I love it. It’s just like going to work with your friends but then professional helping each other as well.”

Angellica stood in for Alex on occasion when The One Show stalwart took her first maternity leave back in 2017.

Alex is currently expecting her second child with her husband Charlie Thomson.

Meanwhile, Angellica and her husband and fellow TV presenter Michael Underwood, 43, have teamed up with TalkTalk to launch their Easter campaign, encouraging families to sit down together and hunt Easter eggs in family-friendly movies available on TalkTalk TV.

“We are both very family-orientated,” Angellica explained. “Even when we were growing up, we liked to do things with the family.

“Michael is a massive film buff and always tries to get us involved in films and stuff.

“We do like watching films and we do like doing outdoors stuff but sometimes you do just want to sit down and relax together and watch a film.”

Michael said their two children love watching films and noted how the campaign helped get the kids interested in movies outside of the few favourites they always want to watch.

“The Easter egg thing is a really clever idea that TalkTalk came up with,” he said.

“It’s nice to have something that we can do as a family together that I can enjoy doing as well!”
