WHILE it might be tempting to pass out in bed or your tent after a day at a festival – a hair expert has revealed the less than pretty reason why you should probably wash your hair first.

Wearing glitter and temporary colour in your hair was all the rage recently at Coachella, and the trend is likely to continue throughout the festival season this summer – but hair stylist Giovanni Vaccaro has revealed why you should never sleep in it.

A lil Thursday reminder for anyone who needs to hear this right now – “Every little thing is gonna be alright” 🎶💕🦋✨

Speaking to DailyMail.com, the creative director of New York-based Glamsquad warned that while you might want to hang on to the stunning look the next day, failing to wash it out could leave you in pain.

"'I tell my clients and friends to not sleep with glitter or temporary colour on their roots or scalp," he explained.

"It should be shampooed before you go to bed, which sounds so hard after a night of partying but I promise your scalp with thank me!"

So you better hop in the shower – be that at home or the campsite – pronto, or reconsider your Insta-friendly festival hair style.

And Vaccaro also noted that regular shampoo won't quite cut it.

"For those that typically do quick shampoos, now isn’t the time," he explained.

"I recommend two really good shampoos where you really scrub and massage the scalp for a few minutes.

"This will help remove any of that left over 'fun stuff'.

"Make sure to use a clarifying shampoo for your first shampoo and a moisturising shampoo for the second shampoo."

He recommended Redken Clean Maniac Micellar Clean-Touch Shampoo and BrioGeo Don’t Despair, Repair Moisture Shampoo.

Finishing with a moisturising conditioner or treatment is also key, the expert added.
