Jack Ryder is set to return to our screens next week as Holby City’s Evan Crowhurst.
The former teen heartthrob looks a whole lot different from what EastEnders fans will remember.
Jack shot to fame as cute Jamie Mitchell on the Square before leaving in dramatic circumstances back in 2002.
His exit was one of the soap’s most tear-jerking deaths as distraught Sonia Jackson, played by Natalie Cassidy, kissed her dying lover goodbye on Christmas Day after he was ploughed into by love rival Martin Fowler.
But over 15 years on, Jack is looking very mature and slick – a far cry from the blonde curtains he was famed for on the BBC show.
Now with a much shorter trim, the 37-year-old has a spot of silver, something that is sure to delight his fans.
Ryder’s subsequent roles have seen him appear in Single Spies, Popcorn and The Archers.
He has also been in the touring production of The Full Monty.
Now Holby fans are wondering what is in store for Evan, the boyfriend of newcomer Chloe Goddard.
He turns up out of the blue and Dom, played by David Ames, attacks him after thinking she is in trouble.
His first scenes will air next week and the former EastEnder can’t wait to show what he’s all about.
He said: "I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group of people.
"I can’t wait to give a voice to this exciting new character and serve a show that people love."
Simon Harper, Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty, teased that fans should be excited.
“We’ve been talking to Jack for a while to find the right part for him on Holby and his powerful, nuanced audition for Evan blew us away,” he explained.
“He’s both a household name and a superb actor, and fans who remember him as Jamie in EastEnders are in for a big treat and quite a surprise seeing him in this very different role.
“Evan is a complex, alpha surgeon who makes some major waves in Holby.”
